Anyone who knows me well knows how much I love monograming, my name, my initial "T" or "N"......I blame it on my mom having "NaShae" embroidered on everything from a young age! Anyway, monogram necklaces have gained popularity, i.e. the Real Housewives of O.C., L.C. from the Hills, and even my friend, Callie. I told my mom and Ryan about these necklaces a while back, and my mom decided she wanted to get me one with my monogram "KTN" for my 25th birthday. Well, like me, she isn't the most patient, so after receiving it, she couldn't wait until MAY to give it to me.

I absolutely love it and wear it everyday, layering it when I wear other necklace. It's right up my alley!

Surprise Package

I had a surprise package waiting for me when I got home last week from my sweet Aunt Kris. It contained a decorated envelope, a handwritten note, and the creative memories storybook creator.....which is a digital scrapbooking tool.

So thoughtful!

I can't wait to try it out.....anyone tried it and have any tips for me??

My 4th cheer banquet was last weekend. It was very nice, as always.

My original babies are all grown up and about to graduate.....tear! I can't believe that it has been 4 years since I first met these sweeties. I'm so proud of them and will always cherish them! The speech that they gave to me at the end of the night was the most fulfilling moment I have had as an educator thus far.....it goes without saying that I cried (and laughed)! I asked one of the girls to email it me, so if she does I will post it.

They actually referenced the individual notes that I wrote each of them 4 years ago...and reflected on our memories. Just awesome.........

Who's going to win? THE COWBOYS!!!!!

Wait, what? The Cowboys aren't in the Super Bowl? Oh, well, I didn't get the memo and I'll still be wearing my jersey AND earrings Sunday. I don't really care, or have a prediction. I kinda like Tom Brady, believe it or not, so Patriots? Ehh, anyway, it's not Tony, Jason, Damarcus or Miles, so again, I don't really care.

BUT, what's on the menu at the Tuomey's.....that's the important part.

We are spending the night at home this year, and thanks to the wonderful-ness of Pinterest, we should have some yummy food to munch on.

We went to the Fort Worth Stockshow and Rodeo last night with our friends. We didn't end up having time to walk around the stockshow, but the rodeo was entertaining. I just love living in Fort Worth, the culture is awesome...such a great mix of the old west with the city life!

Before we left we made sure to take a couple of pictures to match the ones we took on our first date at the rodeo in 2006, along with a few pictures with our friends! **the quality on the new pics is a little lacking; we only had our phones :/

Happy Happy Birthday to my sweet, awesome, amazing husband! I can’t believe you are 26 and in your mid/late 20s!!! I’m glad I’m still in my early 20s ;);) (I’m sure Ryan and all of our friends love that I repeatedly remind them that no matter how old we get, I will ALWAYS be younger!)

And to think, the first night we hung out outside of class was the night you turned 20 and we went to this very romantic location….

Yep, Taco C…..a late Thursday night staple for this UNT freshman and sophomore! (And he won me over when he pulled out my chair!)

Anyyyyyway, this year to celebrate my Mom & Ray got us tickets to see the Casey Donahew Band at Billy Bob’s; they were great tickets…front row. I decided to make this event a surprise for Ryan. He didn’t know until about 3:00 Friday that we were going on a surprise date that night. I even won us meet & greet backstage passes via Casey’s facebook fan page! We went to dinner at H3 steakhouse in the Stockyards…yummy!! The night was a blast!

Saturday we celebrated with the Tuomey side of the family with dinner at Saltgrass and cake!

(Emerie was pretty interested in this blowing out the candles business...and she gets to do it soon!)

Tomorrow night we are going to the Fort Worth Stockshow and Rodeo to celebrate with our closest friends.

My mom and Ray and I surprised Ryan with tickets to see the Casey Donahew band at Billy Bob's for his birthday last night. I also won meet and greet passes, so we got to go back stage before they show, talk to and take a picture with the band. I got to thinking about decorating our game room with some of the pictures we have with some of our favorite Texas country artists....so I got to looking for all of the pictures from the last 6 years or so. Turns out we have a pretty good repertoire of pictures with artists! We're pretty much a big deal. :) Check it out. (p.s. I'll post more about last nights concert on Ryan's bday post next week!)

For New Year's Eve we celebrated with friends at Randy's house in Benbrook. We cooked out, played games and hung out around the fire outside...Ryan made his yummy duck gumbo, which we've now decided will be our family's new years tradition.

(check out our new Carhart jackets we got for Christmas....we are twinkies, but we both like ours too much to take back, so we will continue to be matching!)

I have one from elementary, one from high school and one from cheerleading. I love them all, and this one is especially cool since it combines both of our memories and our UNT memories of when we first met. I can't wait to display them in our future game room :):)

Ryan and I both shot 7 points this week at Dad's. Ryan shot his 7 on 12/27 on an evening hunt. I shot mine on a morning hunt 12/28. His has taller tines and mine is a wider rack. They are totally different...but apparently 7 was the number for us this year.

This is the first year that Dad, Claudia, Ryan and I all 4 got a deer off of our property. Our freezer is full! :)

I received a few new charms for my Pandora bracelet for Christmas. My bracelet is filling up quite nicely, and all the charms have a special meaning. :)

My cheerleaders gave me a Visa gift card for Christmas, so with it I purchased a charm to represent them and the 3 other squads I have had over the last 4 years. It is not this exact bead (I couldn't find a pic online) but it is NC colors in crystals, but they are just the stones rather than hearts.

My mom & Ray gave me this apple with the golden worm to represent my profession. So cute!

Ryan gave me this picnic basket. He was scared I wouldn't 'get it' but I immediately did when I opened it. We had a picnic on the night we got engaged at UNT, so it represents us/our engagement. So thoughtful!

Celebrating 2011, New Years Eve

Dear 2011,

I had high expectations for you this year. You turned out to be more of a year of transition for the Tuomey family than anything else. As the ball dropped last December 31st I had no idea that on January 1st we would drive by Mustang Creek Estates....then proceed to put our house on the market, buy land, sell our house and move to a rent house all in the first 6 months of the year. Not what I had planned for 2011 at all. But like they say, if you want to hear God laugh tell him your plans. Meanwhile, the changes have been exciting (stressful, but exciting).

So let's recap....in 2011:

Ryan turned 25
We celebrated this occasion with a SURPRISE party
We celebrated being together for 5 years on Valentine's day
Emerie Lucille Carathers was born on March 4th
We bought an acre of land for our future home to be built on
We sold our first home
NaShae turned 24
NaShae graduated with a Master's degree in Education Administration from Lamar University
We celebrated this occasion at the beach with family
We finished our 3rd (N) and 2nd (R) years of teaching
We celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary
We moved into a rent house in Fort Worth
Lots of friends got married and engaged...including PIPER
Rhonda turned 50
We also celebrated this occasion with a SURPRISE party (guess I'm getting pretty good at that)
etc etc etc

Overall, 2011 was not what I expected, but it was a great year! I have no complaints...I'd say we are pretty blessed.

This is our 2011 Christmas card. As I mentioned before, we set up the tripod and took pictures on our land. Ryan created the cards from scratch. It's tough being married to a guy who does photography and teaches graphic design ;)

I LOVE Christmas cards....I love receiving them, displaying them and coming up with ours each year. We have been sending out photo Christmas cards since we got engaged (2007). I couldn't find some of the actual cards on my computer, so these are the pictures that we used instead. Here's a look back and how the pictures (and we) have evolved!

Petsmart offers animal pictures with Santa each year. We took Baylee for a picture and I thought they were so cute I made them into our very first Christmas cards! Living in Denton, finishing up school and planning a wedding!

2008

Our First married Christmas. In our new house....new town, new hair, new baby brother for Baylee.

2009

One of my favorite pictures. Life pretty much the same as 2008, except Ryan's a teacher now. These pictures were taken in the Stockyards by Carie Magee. We may look relaxed, but this was a serious struggle for Gunner....he's come a long way in 2 years.

2010

No time to take pictures, so we made a compilation of the year's events....Galveston, training camp, Las Vegas....and we can't forget our babies.

Our Land

We haven't ever taken any pictures of the land we purchased back in March, and that we are PATIENTLY waiting to build our dream home on. We are getting closer to building, so I wanted to take some and I also wanted our Christmas card pictures there. We went out last Saturday and took a few. It was windy, and we probably looked a little silly to the neighbors, but I think they turned out great (Ryan's talented even when taking pictures from a remote :))! I just CANNOT wait to sit on our back porch and enjoy this view........patience! :)

As you can see, our halloween celebration was a bit last minute, so I went with the trusty old cheer suit. But I'm just happy to say I can still get into it! :)

Routine Run....NOT!

Last night went from a very routine night to, well, not so much. I got home at 6:30 after a district committee meeting, and we decided we didn't have time for our normal run around the Hugely Hospital track, so we went to our quick go-to exercise, which is running around our neighborhood and the side roads. I don't like to run with Ryan because he makes me run the whole time and I like to mix in a little walking :). So we headed out on our own paths.....I finished around 7:15 and Ryan called me as I was walking into our house. He wanted me to come find him and pick him up....I thought this was weird, but figured he was too far away to make it back in the daylight. When I picked him up, he explained that he had been attacked by three dogs....he seemed very nonchalant....I did not! lol

Long story short, he was on a route he had never run before and three dogs ran up to him and attacked him by a rural house on a rural road near our neighborhood. Only one dog bit him, a small pit bull mix. We went back to the house and the man claimed the dogs are strays...we only wanted to know if they had their shots or not. We ended up calling the FW police and filing a report so the animal control can try to find the dogs today. If they don't find them...I guess it's rabies shots for Ryan :(

Small Town USA

This weekend we went to Mt. Vernon to visit my Dad. His birthday is on the 17th, but he is currently out of chickens in his chicken houses, so we went ahead and decided to go in this weekend.

It's always good to go back and relax in the country with Dad. I just love that man!! (he's recording Ryan after his hunt in this pic)

Dad's been working on the pond since the water level is so low....I can just picture my future children jumping off this pier one day!

These are all of the deer that were in our backyard....literally, the backyard. The drought is affecting them really negatively, so they are willing to go wherever they can for food and water.

Ryan killed his first game with his bow on Saturday morning....isn't he so cute! :) He hunted out of a climbing tree stand and got a doe. We just finished filling our freezer...and venison chili is already on the stove :)....speaking of chili...it's fall weather (aka chili weather in the Tuomey household) in Fort Worth. We got 2 inches of rain this weekend and chilly temps (even though we weren't here to see it).

While in MV, we got to see my niece, Valoree, play soccer... except I didn't get a picture :( We didn't make it to CountryFest, but maybe next year.

My cousin Blaine competed in a pageant last weekend and did an awesome job. She won Most Photogenic, Miss Congeniality, 2nd Place in Social Skills & the Mayor's award for her parade float. So proud of her! Wish I could have been there to see it!

Pictured is my Great Aunt Boo, Blaine and my Granny....yep, she's my grandmother! Which is the reason for my post's title! Three beautiful ladies, for sure!

Ray, Ryan and I hosted a SURPRISE 50th birthday celebration for mom Saturday night at her house. It was mom's first birthday party since she was about 10!!

Mom's friend from her neighborhood picked her up around lunch and they went to lunch and a movie, then shopping until they arrived back at the house at 6:30. By then, we had all assembled in the backyard.

Ray and I set up tables with red tablecloths, and one of their friends made centerpieces. I made a birthday banner, wreath and a dessert table. We had a fajita buffet and a country cover artist performing by the pool.

Some of mom's friends from all areas and time periods of her life were there. It was super cool to see all of her loved ones there to share the day with her. Her sister and brother-in-law drove in from Center, her ex-boss and secretary drove 6+ hours from Little Rock, along with all of her friends from the DFW area. I enjoyed planning the party and am so glad it turned out well.

Whew!!!

School has started....okay, turns out it started 5 weeks ago. Whew! Things have been crazy, as they are at the start of every school year. This year we are living in a rent house, which makes things feel a little different, but at least I'm not in grad school!!

This week was Homecoming at NoCro. Homecoming is such a fun time...but also a little bit crazy for those involved in cheer, band, stuco, etc.

Since school started we went to Lubbock and took engagement pictures (Ryan has decided to add photography to his repertoire) and visited with my bestie, Piper and her fiance Jordan. (side note: she got a job!! she is now a kindergarten teacher :))

Football has started!!!! I loooove me some football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. Also, my fantasy team is 2-0....and I'm the only girl in my fantasy league.....just sayin' :)

Ryan and I go to the first home UNT game every year, but this year was extra special because it was the inaugural game for our new stadium, Apogee Stadium. I will try to make this my next post so you can see pics!

We took 6 month pictures of our sweet niece, Emerie.....yes, it's already been six months! She is such a doll. Here is one of my faves...I wanted to post more but my picture downloader is not working right so I will do more later! Did I mention my husband is soooo talented??

We went with Chris & Kristen to the Ranger's game Friday, for Emerie's first baseball game....and they clinched the division! Woo Hoo!

Lots more fun stuff planned for the fall....I can't believe we are edging up on the end of September! Craziness

The Last Day of Summer

I don't know how to feel about today....it's the last day of summer for Ryan and I. We report back to CISD and MISD tomorrow! It has been a crazy, life changing kind of summer, but a good one! I can't believe it went so fast, but I guess it always does. Maybe getting back into a routine will help me get better about posting more often!!!

In the meantime, here is a picture from our spur of the moment trip to San Antonio last week! We just couldn't make it a summer without a little river walk/La Margarita/Cowboys training camp in our lives....this makes 14 years in a row for me!!
Also, today marks 5 1/2 years since Ryan and I started dating....weird that I still celebrate it, but hey, why not celebrate the little things?

I passed my certification exam that I took last Friday! I am very relieved that it is over and my whole graduate school process is complete! Thanks for the prayers.

I miss my husband! He has been gone since Monday, and he will be returning this coming Monday..only a couple more days! It's times like these when I feel for the spouses of our military, and I am thankful that I am not one.

The dogs are missing their 'daddy' too. Yesterday a vehicle in our neighborhood beeped when its owner locked it, just like Ryan's does. Baylee and Gunner both woke up and ran to the front door. I assured them that he wasn't here, but they insisted on sitting in front of the door and starring at it for another 5 minutes. so sweet!

My Dad & Claudia gave me my late graduation presents when I was in town for Father's Day last weekend. One of which was charm to go on my graduation Pandora bracelet. It is called "Day Dream," which is appropriate. My dad is always the person who lets me know I am working too hard and I need to take some time here and there to relax. Love it :)

Reality Check:We're Growing Up!

Two weekends ago Ryan and I drove to Mt. Vernon to celebrate Father's Day weekend and the marriage of my good high school friend, Roy.

At Roy's reception I got to see almost all of my close '05 friends. It was great! And I also came to the realization that we are growing up!!!!

For example:

I am married.

Roy is now married.

Rachael is married.

Callie is engaged.

Piper is engaged.

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT...what was that last part???? Yes, you read that right. PIPER IS ENGAGED. My best friend in the whole entire world is getting married. Jordan asked Piper to marry him Sunday morning and she said YES! Piper recently moved away from me in Fort Worth to be with Jordan in Lubbock. I couldn't be happier for them and the rest of my Mt. Vernon friends!

Today....actually, and hour from now three years ago, I became Mrs. Ryan Tuomey. It was the greatest moment in my life, thus far. I love you more than words, and I am so thankful for "my bestfriend and my soul mate."

Meanwhile....we are packing, packing, packing, as we head towards a year full of changes in our lives. So this is going to be a less festive anniversary celebration that we are used to, but I bet it will be one of the ones we remember for sure!

My dad is my rock...he literally is probably the only person that can keep me level-headed from time to time! I am so lucky to have him, and the other awesome father figures in my life...especially my stepdad, Ray. Plus, I know my sweet hubby will be an excellent father one day, too!

Cheer Camp

June 5-8 I attended cheer camp at TCU with my cheerleaders and the other 4 North Crowley squads (middle schools through varsity). Cheer camp is a very stressful week for cheerleaders and coaches...but since I have been on both sides, I would definitly say more so on the coach's end. The pressure and responsibility, mixed with the overly spirited staff, lack of sleep and dorm room/community bathroom living isn't always the best combo :). However, my girls were very successful this week and they had a lot of fun. I am good friends with a couple of the middle school cheer coaches and it was fun to get to spend time with them.

My Mom & Ray gave me a Pandora charm bracelet for my masters graduation. My mom has had her own for a couple of years, and she has wanted to get me one, but I didn’t think I was quite ready. As I’ve gotten a little older, I decided I wanted one….although I never told mom this. She surprised me with one by chance and I love it! I like it even more because it has such special meaning. Mom & Ray started me off with three charms, and she got together with my extended family and they also had charms ready to give me at graduation.

My bracelet is silver, and these are the charms I received at graduation. I picked out my clips last weekend (they hold the charms in place).

The last weekend of April, Ryan and a whole group of our friends headed to College Station for the weekend. We are all members of Ducks Unlimited and they throw an annual cookoff benefiting the organization. We rented a nice camper and spent the weekend cooking in the 'Brook Boys' first cookoff and watching Texas country concerts. It was a blast. The Brook Boys did not place in any of the categories, but we plan to enter another one soon. Ryan is the brisket man...and it is oh so good!!

On May 7th I turned 24. I've decided I'll stay 24....25 sounds a little too old to me (yes, I'm aware it's not actually old). :)

Ryan and I celebrated Friday night at Olive Garden and watched the Mavs playoff game at home afterwards.
Saturday morning (my actual bday) we headed to mom's to hang out by the pool and have dinner. We also celebrated mother's day. As you can see, Ray made my birthday cake this year.....see last year's post to view "rhonda's masterpiece." *she's going to love this part of the post
Sunday we went to the Tuomey's (in-laws, not our own house) to celebrate mother's day and mine and Karen's birthdays, because hers in May 1st.
We celebrated with friends the following Wednesday, at 8.0s, our favorite spot downtown for music and fun. They have Texas country concerts every Wednesday in the spring and summer. My birthday Wednesday just happened to be one of my favorites...Brandon Rhyder AND I got one of his guitar picks!

It's Official: I have my masters

Last Friday Ryan and I met my extended family in Galveston for a weekend getaway at the beach, topped off with my graduation from Lamar University on Saturday afternoon. We had a great time hanging out with my family and cousins and enjoying the beach. Following the ceremony we had dinner at Pappadeaux in Beaumont. I owe a huge THANK YOU to my parents, granny, Aunt Kris, Aunt Boo and the rest of my family for making my weekend so special.

My Husband's a Warrior

The boys ran their first warrior dash a couple of weeks ago. It is a 5k run with over 10 obstacles in between, including a mud pit, jumping over fire, running through tires and climbing over cars. I think they had a lot of fun and Ryan did a great job. He finished in 33 minutes!! I was very proud....maybe I'll give it a shot next year. (but then again, maybe not)

Now you may be thinking, NaShae isn't a baseball fan. This has been pretty true all of my life. I'm more of a football kind of girl. :)

However, it has grown on me thanks to my hubby and our proximity to the ballpark in Arlington. Baseball's not so bad if you get to be at the actual game.

Here are the reasons why I picked the Rangers as the only member of my love list:

-the weather is now beautiful
-they went to the world series

2. My stepdad, Ray, is having some health issues right now, so he and my mom are enjoying a relaxing week at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth (sarcasm). He is in good spirits, but please keep our family in your prayers! The good news is they have located the problem and are seeing signs of improvement.

3. Ryan is leaving tomorrow morning for Corpus Christi and he will be there (with 40 high school students) until late Saturday night. His media tech students are competing at the state level! Very proud of him. They get to take a charter bus AND go to the beach. Even though it is much too cold to swim, I'm still jealous :) and I miss him when he's gone!

Ryan and I officially bought our piece of property yesterday. We are the future residents of Mustang Creek Estates in Fort Worth/Benbrook. The area is south of the metroplex (and about 10 minutes from where Ryan grew up), and it zones to a great SMALL (important to me) school district and is absolutely beautiful. Our plot is a little over one acre. We are so excited! Now we just have to complete the next step: sell our house. Then step three: build our dream home. We aren't in a major rush, but obviously we would like it to happen sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed!

Sweet Girl

Emerie Lucille Carathers was born Friday, March 4, 2011 at 9:00 am. She was 6 lbs. 8 oz. and 18 inches long. She is a beautiful and healthy girl!

Ryan and I took off work so we could be there. Kristen, Chris and Emerie are at home now and are doing great....minus the sleep part. :)

We went to visit them again last night. Enjoy the pics even though they are small...they are from my phone! (p.s. I made the tutu for her....so tiny and cute!)

*** Peacock feathers. Definitely a random pick. I have a pair of peacock feather earrings and they are a major statement piece. I can wear them with blue, green, black, turquoise, brown or even purple and it pulls out the color. Super fun!

*** 100 calorie sweet wheat bagels (The Alternative Bagel brand) with lowfat strawberry cream cheese. Yummy breakfast treat that I recently discovered…and for the same amount (or less) of calories as my slimfast! (Although I would not wear them as earrings as the pictures suggests!)

*** Wedges….THEY’RE BACK! I love wedges and they are going to be big this spring/summer. They give you the height (for those of us who may be lacking in that area) without hurting your feet. And of course, I love the way they look.

*** Friday Night Lights. Yes, I know I am about 5 years late on this one. Ryan and I love to watch tv shows and movies on Netflicks through our Xbox on the weekends. We just started season 1 of Friday Night Lights. We are hooked….please, no spoilers!

*** Pandora Radio on my phone. My ipod is never charged, and I GREATLY prefer walking with music than to silence, so I downloaded the Pandora app on my phone. It is free radio, and you can choose the ‘stations’ that you like (they are based on a particular artist and music that is similar to theirs). The thing that is the greatest about it is that I get random music that I wouldn’t have downloaded on my ipod otherwise…including stuff from the past. Did I mention it’s free??

*** Speaking of walking, the weather has been BEAUTIFUL lately. Dare I say…spring is almost here? Time to plant new flowers…and though this is nothing new, hydrangeas are my FAVORITE flower! I love all of the colors, I don’t have one particular favorite, I think they are all so pretty. Ryan even put a white one in with my pink roses for valentine’s day (such a sweetie).

Sorry, guys, no time for a fun photo collage....we just got word that it may be time to HEAD TO THE HOSPITAL! I will keep you posted on the new addition to our family :)

How much does education matter to you?

For me? The question is simple. I am an teacher. My husband is a teacher. My mother is an administrator. My best friend is a teacher. My 2 aunts are teachers. I just finished a degree in administration. And most of all, one day I plan to have children that will go to school in this state.

Over 100,000 teachers are expected to lose their jobs with the state legislature budget cuts that are up for adoption. Not only that, but all existing budgets will be cut. For technology, books, science labs, supplies, transportation, teacher health care, paraprofessionals, administrators, etc. etc. etc.

Even if you are not in the education field, don't know anyone in it, or don't have children....you still live in the United States and will see the effects of a poorly educated nation if we don't make changes.

PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATURES!!!

Ryan and I are traveling to Austin on March 12th to participate in the educators march on the capitol (assuming we aren't in the process of becoming an aunt and uncle).

I am thrilled, although I don't think it has fully hit me yet.

Now, back to this house staging business....it's a love hate relationship. I love any kind of home improvement, however this is for other people to love my house, and not for me. But that's okay, fingers crossed someone will fall in love with our house and buy it up sooner or later. :)

I am trying to get creative with my blogging (although this could be because I have been locked at home for four days), so I am going to attempt to create a Love List each month. These are things that I currently love.

February:
1. Leopard flats. Surprisingly enough, I don't own a pair, but I would love to. They would be perfect with jeans or leggings!
2. Pink REVLON nail polish. Because Revlon polish is the best, and it is VALENTINE'S season!
3. Scarves. Love them; all of them!!
4. Magazines/books/public library. I finally have some time to read again and I love the public library system. Free magazines and books?? what a blessing.
5. Street tacos. Mainly the ones from Taco Bueno- so good.
6. Emeralds. They are my birthstone, but I've never really been into them until recently.
7. A romper coverup. I know I'm jumping ahead a few months on this one. I don't think I can pull off the adult romper in 'real life' but I think it would make a very cute swimsuit coverup this summer. Ahh...summer :)
8. "Keep calm and carry on." The motto of the British military during WWII, and my motto in my classroom! Ha! You can find this motto on practically anything now: sings, bags, notepads, etc. Love it.

DAY FOUR

We must be experiencing spring break early because we are off for the 4th day in a row tomorrow (I had a workshop Monday, so I actually didn't go to school for the entire week!)...which might be my present from the Lord because I don't get to have a spring break this year. I will be at a conference from 8-5 all 5 days of spring break. So here's to a snowy, icy winter/spring break?

We have had two "rolling blackouts" today, but hopefully we won't have to endure any more time without electricity.

Farewell January

Good ridance.

I have known for several months that this January was going to be crazy! BUT I am happy to say that tomorrow begins February and I have made it through the majority of my stressful events, and with only a one emotional breakdown to speak of. :)

Here is what I accomplished in January...

1. Began my last graduate school class (I will be DONE in 2 weeks!)
2. Took the American Family Consumer Science Exam..and PASSED
3. Took the Lamar Competency Exam...and PASSED*
4. Ended the first semester and began the second at work
5. threw a surprise 25th birthday for my sweet hubby (pictured above)
6. threw a baby shower for my sister-in-law and soon to be neice, Emerie (pictured above)
7. had pictures taken at UNT**
8. fell in love with a neigborhood and piece of land that we want to buy...and therefore PUT OUR HOUSE ON THE MARKET!

Whew...it's been a crazy start to 2011, but one that I think will have huge returns in the future. Afterall, I could become a principal, a home-ec teacher, and have the opportunity to build the house of our dreams...and I will have a sweet neice soon and be featured in a magazine!

*The Lamar Competency Exam is the exam that Lamar University requires its graduate students to make an 80 or above on in order to be allowed to take the Texas Principal exam.

**Ryan and I found out that our UNT love story was chosen as one out of seven stories (out of over 200 submitted) that will be featured in the upcoming alumni magazine, so we have been participating in interviews, pictures, etc.

P.S. Now that all of this is out of the way, I should have more time to blog!!

Well, not really when it comes to this...

I just finished my last final and I am now 3 hours (1 capstone/internship class) away from my MASTERS DEGREE!!!!

I will be graduating on May 14th from Lamar University (write that down, Aunt Kris).

The light at the end of the tunnel is making my soon-to-be holiday break even better!

I promise I will return consistently as soon as I finish my graduate school process (in the spring).

But for the record, all is great in Tuomey-land. We are healthy, happy and thankful for the break that we just enjoyed and that we only have 15 days of school until we have another one! :)

Happy Valentine's Day everyone....but especially to "my best friend and my soul mate." (quote from our wedding song)

This is our 5th Valentine's day together, and 4 years ago today is the day Ryan and I officially started dating exclusively. He left a dozen roses in my dorm room while I was at class (Piper let him in) and spent the entire day cooking me dinner. It was such a great first Valentine's day together!

A dozen red roses showed up on my doorstep this year too, and we are cooking dinner together at home tonight!

Snow in Texas....again!

This time the snow was more like a blizzard. The most snow since 1978 in DFW...which means the most snow since Ryan and I have been alive. We are both out of school today because of it! We had fun playing in it yesterday; you can see our self-depiction of snowmen below. :)

First time by myself....thrilled

We were blessed (well except for the dangerous roads) with a white Christmas this year in Fort Worth. We spent Christmas eve with Ryan's family, and the siblings (Ryan and Kristen) thought it would be a great idea to go sledding on the roads at 1:00 am on their dad's old sled from Chicago. The in-laws (Chris and I) needed a little more convincing...being that it was SNOWING, and that this East Texas girl had never even seen a sled (apparently what I thought was a sled is actually a tobogan...this thing is like a giant ice skate)! But we decided to go, and despite being a bit scared, I had a blast!

Cheer Banquet

In January, we had the annual North Crowley cheerleading banquet at Mira Vista Country Club in Fort Worth. The event is very nice; we have italian dinner, dress up nice, and honor the girls. This was my second time to speak in front of all 200+ guests, and I'm happy to say I made it through without crying this year! I do love my girlies though and had a wonderful year with them! And you know what that means.....cheer tryouts are right around the corner! Third squad to coach? (wow...it seems like I just got my job!)

NYE....2010!

Ryan and I had our annual New Year's Eve party at our house (I've actually hosted a NYE party every year but one since I was a senior in high school!) Hostest with the mostest...I know. :)

This year we themed it the "tacky sweater" NYE party...which should explain our outfits. We had a blast spending time with great friends and welcoming in 2010. I can't believe another year went by so fast!! 2009 was great; I have no complaints!

As for 2010, I didn't really come up with any resolutions. I think that is because I am pretty darn happy in my life...and there are very few things that I would want to change. Happy new year, everyone! (I know I'm a month late...but still)

I know I have been really bad about posting...but I promise to get better! :) Forgive me.

Last Tuesday, (1/26/10) was my hubby's 24th birthday! The first time we hung out outside of geography lab was the night of his 20th birthday (and yes, that means I was 18!!)! Time flies....

We celebrated with Ryan's parents and sister at Razzoos. And Ryan and I went to eat on the night of his birthday at Saltgrass. On his birthday morning I got up early to make his favorite breakfast (which is a breakfast casserole that Karen made up). He didn't want to make a big deal of his birthday...but just wait until next year when he is a quarter of a century! :)

Thanksgiving

Ryan and I spent this weekend with my family. We had Thanksgiving with the Tuomey's last weekend, and we headed out Monday night to spend time at dad's in Mt. Vernon. We stayed with Dad and spent time hunting and hanging out until Wednesday. We headed to Mom's in Little Rock on Wednesday and stayed until today. We had three thanksgiving dinners and enjoyed spending time with our families. Mom and I shopped black Friday (my first time) and decorated her house for Christmas. Ryan and a couple of his friends went to Stuttgart, AR to their annual duck festival and had a blast. We are back home, and getting ready to head back to work tomorrow. We had a truly awesome Thanksgiving break!! Only three weeks of school until Christmas!!!
